Mikey and I made it back safe and sound about 4:30pm Saturday. I very much missed Tony! I know it's silly, I was only gone four days. But crazy me, I love my husband and spending time with him.
Mikey and I had a great time. Mikey was a great help to Lisa. They did a bunch of baking Thursday and Friday evening. Fort McKavett has the Educators Day on Friday and a public event on Saturday.
Thursday morning, Mikey and I relaxed some around the house. We got Julie, my horse, out from the pasture and began to groom her. She is almost 25 and has always gotten a thick coat. We worked on shedding her out and getting burs off of her. I did bring a saddle and bridle. Julie hasn't been ridden in about four years. But I got on her and she remember it all. It was so nice to ride her. Wonderful memories came back.
Friday a weather front came in and it was COLD! The wind can get really bad there at the Fort. We had fun with the Chuckwagon (one was a homeschool family), Buffalo Soldiers, Camels, Farm Animals, Women's Role, Laundress, Flag raising, Artillery Display and the (modern) Army. Mikey kept saying he wanted to get to the butter churning. We finally made it over there, but the butter had already set and she couldn't do anything with it. Seems the weather was giving her trouble. They are a homeschool family and she remembered us from last year. Just as last year there were a few things that we didn't get to see. Mikey and I ran back to Ken and Lisa's house to warm up. Lisa held a tea with the ladies.
After drinking four cups of coffee and reading The Hiding Place, I went outside to ride Julie again. Once again another nice ride. Mikey and I went back over to the Fort to help serve dinner to the volunteers. It went down to freezing that night.
Saturday morning, after eatting bacon and eggs, we packed the car. Mikey and I drove to the Fort and said goodbye to Lisa and Ken and hit the road.
I am so thankful for; a safe trip and Lisa and Ken. Praying they recover from the long event!!
