Earth Day

Our son Mikey came running to me and Tony this weekend. "On Earth Day, if you go see this movie they will plant a tree for each person who goes to the movie!!!" Well I know this is his way of saying, "hey I want to go see this movie" without directly saying so. Mikey often takes the indirect approach to try to get what he wants. But Tony looks at him and says, "Really, so they want you to get in your car, pollute on the way to the movies and then use electricity to watch the movie on Earth Day?" He went on to say, "doesn't sound very Earth Friendly to me!" This does silence Mikey. But Tony was right. It was crazy. It would have been far better to say, for everyone who stays home, turns off the TV and computers we will plant a tree. But capitalism takes over! Americans are so blind to it, that they buy into it.

So while we are not tree huggers, we will do something on Earth Day. We will turn off the TV and the computers from 6pm-10pm and sit down to have a family game night!

If to go take the recycling into the garage!

Amish Friendship Bread

A few weeks ago I accepted not one, but two bags of Amish Friendship bread. Now those of you who don't know what it is; you are accepting a starter yeast. It comes in a ziplock bag and the instructions. You mush it for several days, then you add a cup of milk, flour and sugar. Then you mush for a few more days and it's ready for the final process. Well the goal is to pass it on starter to four other people and you get two loaves of bread for yourself! But silly Kate has two of these so she should end up passing starter to eight people!

So I bake four loaves of bread, which our son has been eating for breakfast and loves it. But I never got the bags passed out to anyone. So I started the mushing process in the beginning. There was no way I was going to add eight cups of milk, flour and sugar when that time came. Keep in mind that is eight bags or 16 loaves of bread!!! I kept three bags to finish up. So I'll be stuck in the cycle of needing to give away 12 bags. I don't mind keeping one to be able to make more bread. So watch out this weekend if you live near me...you might have a bag of Amish Friendship Bread like it or not!!

Another doctors appointment

The past several years I have spent more time than I care to in and out of doctors offices. Several years ago, after being persistent I was diagnosed with Hashimotos Disease (auto-immune thyroid disease). So for several years there was the push to get the balance correct. Finding that other factors pay into thyroid treatment, like iron and adrenals. Then in Sept of 2006 I start having major painful joint problems. So again after pushing, I found a wonderful Rheumtologist that finds an answer for me, Ankylosing Spondylitis. And now I go in for Remicade infusions every 6-8 weeks. But thank you Lord, I am at a good spot right now. I have been very blessed to be able to go back to riding horses again!

So today, why another appointment? This time it's the allergist. I take two nasal spays and very expensive eye drops. So they hold you hostage for refills and you must go in every six months. But I started having some issues two weeks ago. Shortly after drinking some wine at a wine tasting a few weeks ago, I had some stomach issues. My stomach was nutty for a week and a half. Then about a week ago in the middle of that, I started itching! Skin crawling, itching!! Arms and thighs with the occasional itch on the belly. I have some bumps on my arms in those spots.

So at this point I think the doctor thinks I'm a hypochondriac. I explained the food allergies that both of my sisters deal with. He says he will run the gluten antibodies, but thinks that either I picked up a bug or that I have something that is not quite full blown eczema. Ok, I thought I brought in that piece of paper.

So I have another RX to take Xyzal, for the itch! He will let me know about the gluten.

Off to check on the kids.....I hear noises :-(
